Raiders of the Lost

Archaeology

Background

There are few skills so strange and largely impractical as Archaeology, which is probably why it’s taken so long to appear on Sosaria. But now, it would seem more and more people are grabbing brushes, shovels and whips, and setting out to dig up lost rubbish. This strangely rewarding skill guarantees a lifetime of strange finds, unusual artefacts, and running away from giant boulders.

Archaeologists can use their brushes in a vast number of locations, and each one yields a chance at a special find. Most locations, however, will only provide a chance at a Rare Discovery and more flint than you can knap in your life. The following locations can yield better finds:

Ruins

Tools required: Brush

Other items required: None.

Known special items: Rare Discovery

  • To dig, double click your brush and target the soil. You will clean some away.
  • Dependant on your skill and your luck, you’ll pull out an item.
  • Items in ruins fall into three categories: Lesser finds, ruin finds, and generic finds. Each group has a different chance to be found.

Towns

Tools required: Brush

Other items required: None

Known special items: Rare Discovery

  • The process for digging is exactly the same as for ruins.
  • At higher skill levels, you can find special town-specific artefacts (Historical Artefacts) that are linked to the history of that town.
  • Digging in towns can yield coins.
  • Items in towns fall into the following fields: Lesser finds, Historical Artefacts, generic finds

Swamps

Tools required: Brush.

Other items required: Whip for defence

Known special items: Rare Discovery

·        Once again, the digging process is the same.

·        Swamp finds comprise: Lesser finds, swamp finds, burial finds, generic finds

·        The bodies of those who have fallen into the swamp make up the majority of swamp finds.

Dungeon Finds

Tools required: Brush

Other items required: Whip

Known special items: Unknown

·        While it is known that items can be found in dungeons, no-one has yet uncovered one. It is believed that burial items, lesser finds, and some form of dungeon specific find may exist.

The Whip, The Hat, And The Jacket

There are two special items for archaeologists – whips, which can be crafted from leather by tailors or found on some monsters, and fedoras. The fedora will NOT fall off your head when exiting a dungeon.
